80s Themed Birthday Cake

Posted by Jennifer at 3:35 PM 0 comments
Jenna wanted a fun birthday cake for her husband's big 3-0! She sent me her birthday invites which were 80s themed and sooooooo cool! We designed this cake around the theme and I think it turned out so great! The bottom tier was Pac-Man, the middle tier was a Rubik's cube and the top was a throw back to Mario, except it was Brian coming out of the pipe. The whole cake was covered in marshmallow fondant and I added an old-school boom box and two cassette tapes at the base (made out of fondant). Making Yoshi, his egg, and Brian as Mario were especially fun!

The cake was Brownie Lovers cake and Strawberry Not So Short Cake. Yum!

PS3 Controller

Posted by Jennifer at 10:04 AM 0 comments
Elizabeth wanted a special special to give to her children on the day of their wedding as a symbol of their joining families. The boys love to play their PS3 so she thought a controller would be awesome. The whole cake is Ruby Red Velvet cake with cream cheese frosting covered in marshmallow fondant. In order to make this controller look the best, I shaped the cake into controller first. This usually takes several hours to get right and yes, yes it did :) After shaping it, I covered it in a few layers of buttercream to make sure the indents and grooves were prominent. I covered the whole cake in black marshmallow fondant. I added the the buttons and knobs and there you have it. It really does sound more simple than it was... haha....

Mini Mario Cake

Posted by Jennifer at 7:56 PM 0 comments
Recently, I've been making a lot more mini-cakes, which I think are ADORABLE! Look how tiny and cute this is!!! It's a 4-inch round top with a 6-inch round bottom. It's all covered in marshmallow fondant and all of the Mario bits and pieces are MMF as well. It was a Chocolate Chip No-Cookie Cake (vanilla cake layered with chocolate chips and buttercream). I loved making each little detail for Leo's birthday because it took me back to my childhood as well. Enjoy the throwback and the mini! :)

P.S. I'd like to add this to my nerd cake collection... Ah, I have to represent!
