Kristie has amazing parties and when she asked me to do little Mia's birthday cake, I knew it was going to be an amazing design! I think my favorite part of this was that she came up with this design herself and sketched it out for me! So cool! :)
The cakes were covered in marshmallow fondant and then I used styrofoam rounds for the black separators. The cupcakes were cream cheese frosting piped out so that they look like noodles topped with ferrero rocher candies and whoppers and then covered in strawberry sauce. I love, love, LOVED making such a unique cake :) Thanks, Kristie!

Purple Zebra and Flowers!
Here comes an adorable story! Wendy emailed me and said her birthday was coming up and wanted to get a cake from me since she had some of her friend's wedding cake a while back and loved the flavor (Tuxedo cake, one layer of chocolate and 2 layers of vanilla cake layered with chocolate and vanilla buttercream and mini chocolate chips). Her request was to have a purple cake, maybe zebra stripes with colorful flowers on it. We planned it all out and came up with this design:
That same week, I got a request from Sean for a purple cake with a black design on it and pretty flowers on it. He requested Tuxedo cake too, same specifications of 1 layer of chocolate, 2 vanilla, and mini chocolate chips! I thought it was strange but made it anyway and we came up with this design:Turns out, Sean is Wendy's boyfriend who wanted to surprise her with a cake for her birthday! Wendy ended up with 2 Tuxedo cakes both in purple with flowers on it. I was pretty impressed at how well Sean did with describing what Wendy wanted. When Wendy came to get the surprise cake that Sean ordered, I asked if she still wanted it since she had just picked up the other one. She laughed and said of course, more cake for her! :) haha.

Mini Wedding Cake
I love this little mini-wedding cake! I did Suzanne's daughters wedding cake earlier in the year and then her son was getting married as well! That's one busy mama! She wanted a much smaller wedding cake for this second wedding and we came up with this little baby. Isn't it adorable? It's covered in marshmallow fondant and I believe it was Vanilla Latte Cake. Yum!

Very Merry Unbirthday!
Breanna was throwing Londyn a very merry 1st unbirthday and wanted a fun cake to match the theme of the party. The top tier was Londyn's smash cake and it was all buttercream with a marshmallow fondant rim and card. The bottom two tiers were covered in marshmallow fondant with edible keys and watches covered edible gold shimmer. I piped on a buttercream pearl swagged border on the bottom tier and topped off the cake with a peacock feather. The cake was so much fun to make. All of the details took quite a long time to make but were totally worth it in the end. The cake was Lemonberry & Candy Bar Cake (check out my full flavor list at www.SaltCakeCity.com).

Chanel No 1... in cake form
Katie was throwing an awesome 1st birthday bash for her daughter, Chloe. She had adorable pictures of Chloe in pink and black with a Chanel purse done up for the invitations so I modeled this cake after that idea. We have the perfume Chanel No. 1 bottle on the left covered in marshmallow fondant and edible pearls. Then, I made a cute black and pink hat box with a Chanel purse on top that's covered in edible shimmer. The little pink purse in the front was little Chloe's smash cake. I had so much fun with this cake! Thank you, Katie, for always giving me such great cake designs!! :)

Grandkids Anniversary Cake
Karen wanted an anniversary cake for her parents and wanted to feature the grandkids... all 11 of them! I was wondering how in the world I could incorporate 11 different grandchildren into one fall-themed cake and this is what we cake up with. Karen sent me a picture of all the kids and I created little cartoon versions of them with marshmallow fondant and then piped their names on with buttercream. The top tier was 24-Carrot Cake and the bottom tier was Banana Cream Pie Cake (one of my favorites!) The whole cake is covered in marshmallow fondant with MMF leaves and faces. So much fun! I hope the kids got to eat their own pieces :)

Mini-Minnie & Mini-Mickey Cakes

I love how some cakes come in waves. Last week I posted a few 3-tiered Mickey Mouse cakes that were due on the same time and this time, I had 2 mini cakes. This cute little Minnie Mouse cake was used for a fundraising event because Hilary didn't want to bake something herself... haha. I was happy to help! They raised $130 for this cake... top seller of the night! Yay! The cake on the right was a little mini- Mickey Mouse cake for Emma's second birthday. Both cakes were covered in marshmallow fondant and the ears were MMF as well. It's much easier than it looks! Take some black fondant, use a circle cutter and cut out two pretty thick round circles. Insert 2 toothpicks or flower wire into the ears and let them dry overnight. When they're ready, stick them into the sides of the top tier. Super easy! :)

Shopping & Make Up Sweet 16 Cake
Tonya threw a big Sweet 16 bash for her daughter Shontae and wanted a shopping & make up themed birthday cake. I know it doesn't look like it but there are three flavors here, Brownie Lovers Cake, Ruby Red Velvet, & Cookies & Cake. See, the trick it, the tall shopping bag is actually 2 full tiers of cake and then it's covered in marshmallow fondant so that it looks like one cake. The bag handles and the "tissue paper" are also made out of marshmallow fondant. I made all of the make up pieces by hand out of fondant and then added those around the two bags. I'm realizing right now that I shouldn't have put the cake and accessories on a pinkish/red-ish background because you can't see the details in the make up pieces. Dang it! So sorry! I'll work on that :)

Red, White, & Purple Wedding Cake!
Okay, so I know the color looks blue here... but I promise, it was much more purple. It's weird how my purple never shows up correctly. Anywho... The cake was covered in marshmallow fondant and then I piped the swirl design in the middle tier (wow, I just said that in my last post!). It was English Toffee Cake & Rainbow Bright Cake. Yum! :)

Yellow & Gray Square Wedding Cake
This 4-tiered square cake was a twist (literally) on a Tiffany blue & black wedding cake I made a while back. The bride wanted something fun but still elegant. It was all covered in marshmallow fondant and then I added the white swirl pattern by piping it on there (painstakingly!). Yup, that takes a long time and kinda hurts! haha. Here's an up close photo of the piping.
The bride, Toni, chose Brownie Lovers cake, Just Peachy Cake, and Truffled Chocolate Cake. Yum! Here's a weird thought. I made this cake over a year ago but by just looking at it, I remembered the bride's name. Is that weird? I guess that's good, right?

2 Mickey Mouse Birthday Cakes
I had 2 3-tiered Mickey Mouse themed birthday cakes in the same weekend. It was pretty weird how that came together! Anyway, one was for a little boy and the other was for a woman who loves Mickey so they were a little different :) It was definitely hard for me to keep these two straight and keep the right flavors with the right cakes since they looked pretty much the same... haha. It all worked out in the end though. The cakes were covered in marshmallow fondant and the ears were fondant as well. Turns out, making the border with the white dots above is pretty time consuming! I love the detail it gave to the cake though.

Rainbow Birthday Cake
I make a cake for little Sheridan every year and this time, it was a fun rainbow themed birthday cake. There was a song that went along with it and so I used the details from the song to decorate the cake. Everything was made of fondant but my favorite little details were the little cupcakes! I wanted to eat them! Lisa, Sheridan's mom, had a little cupcake station at the party so that all of the little kids could make their own cupcakes and add the sprinkles they wanted. She dyed the inside of the cupcakes to be rainbow as well. How cute is that idea??

Lime Green & Pink Topsy Wedding Cake
This bride wanted some REALLY bright and fun for her wedding cake. This 3-tiered topsy turvy cake was covered in marshmallow fondant and then I added the swirls at the bottom by rolling long thin ropes of MMF and cutting them in half (so that there was a flat side to stick well to the cake). I free-handed the design which created way more variety in the design. I added white pearl swags and multi-colored ball border. For the sugar flowers, I used daisy cutters and sunflower cutters and dried them in small bowls to give them some shape. I love that we used the extra flowers on the table!
The flavors were Banana Cream Pie, Emerald City Cake, and Coconut Cream Pie Cake. For more info on the flavors, check out my website and the full list of flavors (www.SaltCakeCity.com).

Musical Themed Graduation Cake
Ron wanted a music themed graduation cake for Kiley. She got accepted into ASU and wanted to celebrate her future adventures as well. The cake was Brownie Lovers cake and we used light blue and yellow, which are the colors from her high school in Taylorsville. The cap was rice kripsies covered in buttercream and marshmallow fondant and the cap top was all fondant. To make all of the musical notes, I cut them all out of fondant and then stuck a thin wire in the bottoms. I let them dry overnight and then they stood up for the cake occasion. I love the color combo here and also enjoyed making another themed graduation cake. Yay!

Princess Tiara Birthday Cake
Jen was having a fun princess themed birthday party for Madeleine's 3rd birthday and wanted a cutesy birthday cake to go along with it. We thought it only fitting that she have a princess tiara made of sugar for the day along with a wand (Do princesses have wands? Hmm, I guess so). Everything was made out of marshmallow fondant including the roses and bow. Jen's husband, Keldon, came to pick up the cake (there's nothing more enjoyable for me than to watch men carry out adorable princess cakes from Salt Cake city :) Keldon was so excited about the cake that he insisted on taking pictures of it even before leaving. I later heard back from Jen that Madeleine and all of her 3 year old friends loved the cake. Yay!

Tiffany Blue Wedding Cake

Jennica & Braden chose three flavors for their cake. The first was Brownie Lovers (chocolate cake layered with chocolate ganache and a layer of chewy brownies), the second was Ruby Red Velvet Cake (moist red velvet cake layered with cream cheese frosting), and the last was White Raspberry Kiss (white chocolate cake layered with white chocolate ganache and raspberry cream filling).
When I got to the venue to deliver the cake, they had a BEAUTIFUL room set up. I came in just as the wedding party was taking their photos together and wow, they looked wonderful. Everyone was dressed in black, white and Tiffany blue and room matched. Have I mentioned that this was a picture perfect couple? :) I have to give a special shout out to Penny, mother of the bride. She was amazing to work with to make sure all of the details were correct on the cake and also for the set up. Thank you all for being so easy to work with!

Soccer Birthday

The cake was an Orange Dreamsicle Cake (orange cake layered with orange cream filling and buttercream) covered in homemade marshmallow fondant. Carol and Matthew were so excited when I delivered the cake while I apologized the whole time about it still looking childish to me. Haha... I'm such a perfectionist. They both loved it and so I just have to get over it. :)

Light Pink Mouse Cake

They chose a really soft pink rather than the vibrant pinks I've done in the past for other "pink mouse cakes." It's hard to see in this picture but I love how the soft pink contrasts with the black because it still pops off the cake. The whole cake is covered in marshmallow fondant and the hat on top is made out of rice krispies. Everything on the cake is edible. They chose strawberry cake with cream cheese frosting and Emerald City cake (pistachio flavored cake layered with pistachio cream filling and pistachio nut). Yum!
When I got to the venue, the space was beautiful! They had a ton of balloons and decorations which gave the room a fun feeling. I had to chose you a picture of it here... not the best picture of the cake but the space is awesome! :) I love the mouse ears made out of balloons!
